Mizoram EC announces general elections to MADC

Newmai News Network Aizawl | April 12   The State Election Commission of Mizoram today announced that the 11th general elections to Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) will be held on on May 4.   Announcing the poll date in the presence of media, leaders of Mizoram People’s Forum (MPF) and government officials, State Election Commissioner L Tochhong said the election will be held in 80 polling stations for 25 constituencies on the scheduled date from 7 am to 5 pm and the date for re-poll, if any, will be held on 5 May.   The last date for filing nominations is fixed on April 19, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is on April 21. Scrutiny of nomination papers would be held on April 20 and counting of votes would be undertaken on 8 May.   Election process is scheduled to be completed by May 12 and the first meeting of the new council is scheduled on 15 May.   There are 37,258 electorates including 19,289 female voters in MADC as per the latest roll published 30 March, 2017.   Of the 80 polling stations, 10 have been declared sensitive due to their close proximity to Indo-Myanmar border, Tochhong said.   Tochhong also said that the Election Model Code of Conduct was in placed from today in the jurisdiction of respective constituencies in MADC area and this would cover all political parties and contesting candidates, ministers, parliament secretaries, members of parliament, MLAs, municipal councilors, and all public servants engaged in the MADC general election.
