Mizoram logs 113 new COVID-19 cases, 2 more fatalities

Aizawl, June 7 (PTI): At least 113 more people, including a two-month-old baby, tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the state to 13,679, an official said on Monday.

Two more fatalities due to the infection pushed the death toll to 55, he said.

Two persons, aged 30 and 42, have succumbed to the infection while undergoing treatment at Zoram Medical College (ZMC), the official said.

Of the fresh cases, 75 were reported from Aizawl district, 17 from Lawngtlai, nine from Lunglei, six from Kolasib, four from Saitual and one each from Mamit and Khawzawl.

The single-day positivity rate was at 15.14 per cent as 113 new coronavirus-positive cases were detected from 746 sample tests, he said.

Sixty-eight new patients were detected during contact tracing, while it is yet to be ascertained how others contracted the disease, the official said.

Of the fresh patients, 58 have developed symptoms of COVID-19.

Mizoram now has 3,279 active cases, while 194 people were cured of the disease on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 10,345.

The recovery rate among coronavirus patients stands at 75.63 per cent.

The northeastern state has so far tested 4,10,614 samples for COVID-19, the official said.

According to state immunisation officer Dr Lalzawmi, 2,66,613 people have been inoculated till June 5, and 52,191 of them received both doses of the vaccine. PTI COR BDC BDC
