The rising number of cases of COVID-19 has prompted Mizoram government to take a decision for stringent measures. The state will launch an extremely strict measure to start with by imposing "COVID-19 No Tolerance Fortnight" from October 26. This measure is aimed at breaking the chain of local transmission in Mizoram.

According to an official report, the state government of Mizoram has decided to adopt this extreme step during an emergency meeting which was participated by the Health department, the Home department, the Urban Development department, the Education department, the church and the apex body of Mizoram doctors on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Health minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana.

According to the official report, participants of the meeting were of the opinion that the COVID-19 situation in Mizoram is grim as cases of local transmission continue to increase at the fast pace. Given this situation, the participants of the meeting decided to adopt the “zero tolerance” drive for 14 days in the state starting from October 26.

“The local transmission chain can be broken if unlock guidelines, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and the Mizoram Containment and Prevention of Covid-19 Ordinance, 2020 are strictly followed without any relaxation and toleration,” said the official report.

According to the report, the State Executive Committee of Mizoram State Disaster Management Authority will prepare new guidelines for the “COVID-19 No Tolerance Fortnight”.

The meeting also discussed the traffic norms.
