Mkg DC cautions against hunting of Amur falcons

Mokokchung, October 27 (MExN): Taking note of reports of Amur falcons being hunted and trapped by some individuals in the district, Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner (DC) Limawabang Jamir has issued an order against the same.

Amur falcons are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and hunting, trapping, killing or selling of Amur falcons for food or possession or otherwise is a criminal offence, punishable with up to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment or with Rs 25,000 fine or both under section 51 of the Wildlife Act, the DC’s order stated.

Appropriate necessary action shall be initiated against any individual/groups found hunting, trapping, killing or selling of Amur falcons for food or possession or otherwise, it cautioned.

Further the DC reminded all the towns/villages of Mokokchung District that the hunting of wild animals and birds in any form continues to remain banned in the district and defaulters will be penalized as per Section 9 and Section 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
