MLA team inspects Kiphire stadium work

Kiphire | March 7 : A 5-member team from the Nagaland government today visited Kiphire to get first-hand information on ongoing works of a new indoor stadium at Kiphire. The work was started in 2006.

MLA Dr Neikiesalie Kire observed the work of contractors in general and commented ‘both the parties, contractor and the department have to be blamed for poor quality of the work’.
Commenting on the Kiphire indoor stadium, Dr Kire also felt the need to enhance the ‘schedule rate’ for the current year as the work has been on with the schedule rate of 1995.
I.Imkong, MLA strongly took note of the ‘absence of departmental officers to monitor the work’.
The DC of the district who led the visiting team to the site questioned: ‘How can there be progress in work as it is being monitored from Kohima? At one point of time I stopped the work as there is no one from the department to monitor the work and apprise the visiting team to take note of it’.
RL Akamba former MLA who was also there at the site also called upon the visiting team to pressure the authorities to speed up the work and enhance the schedule rate.
Adding more problems to the work on the indoor stadium, the site was reportedly allotted to private individuals to construct private residences and to the Tourism department to construct a tourist rest house.
It may be mentioned that the tender for indoor stadium at Kiphire was floated in 2005, while work order was issued in 2006. The department (PWD Housing) gave a sketch of the building in 2007 and the site was allotted in 2009. The indoor stadium is looked after by the PWD (Housing) and is being sponsored by Urban Development.
The visiting legislators included L Temjen, C.Kipili, I. Imkong and Chingwang.
