MLAs, councilors asked to participate in meeting to ‘decide fate of Sadar Hills’

Newmai News Network Senapati | November 6   Even as the United Naga Council (UNC) has said today that there is no question of giving up of the ongoing indefinite economic blockade along the national highways and the banning of the construction of Trans Asian Railways, Jiribam to Tupul and national projects imposed since the midnight of November 1 in 'Naga territories', Sadar Hills based organisations have asked all the three MLAs and 20 councilors from Sadar Hills to "compulsorily" participate in the November 9 meeting to "decide the fate of Sadar Hills".   Sources said that there are two opinions cropping up over the Sadar Hills issue. Boycotting of the sitting legislators in the next assembly election and imposition of 'total bandh' along the national highways are two strategies under discussion.   Meanwhile, the UNC has reiterated that it will not lift the ban and the economic blockade till such time it receives a 'positive response' from the government.   The UNC fervently appealed 'district apex organisations', tribes, frontal and regional organisation of women, students, youths, church leaders, political leaders, social activists, village headmen/chief/chairmen to support and co-operate with the ongoing "democratic movement to protect and defend our ancestral land and rights".   On the other hand, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) for Sadar Hills has said that its course of action on the issue will be decided on November 9 during the public meeting.   The JAC for Sadar Hills and various organisations and people in Sadar Hills feel they have been hoodwinked by the state government of Manipur over the issue. A plaque complete with the names of dignitaries engraved on it is standing tall at Kangpokpi today. The Sadar Hills based organisations accused O Ibobi Singh led government of switching stand on the issue in the last minute.   As per the plaque inscription, Chief Minister O Ibibi Singh was to inaugurate the Sadar Hills district in the "presence of" Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and the three legislators from Sadar Hills on October 31.
