Dimapur, May 3 (MExN): Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for Urban Development, Zhaleo Rio, today said that the department is drawing up ambitious plans to address two perennial problems faced by Nagaland’s commercial hub Dimapur - clogged drainage and traffic snarls.
These include construction of two new flyovers at Kuda (Nagarjan)-Thahekhu railway crossing and Thahekhu railway crossing near Rangapahar Zoological Park, and storm water drainage in inundation-prone areas.
Zhaleo accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary for IT&C, TE, Science & Technology and Taxes, Tovihoto Ayemi, Urban Development officials and Dimapur district administration, on Friday inspected the clogged drainage at Naga Shopping Arcade and other flood prone areas. The two Parliamentary Secretaries stressed on the need to construct storm water drainage to prevent water-logging and inundation during monsoon.
On inspecting the flyover near Hotel Senti, Zhaleo and Tovihoto noted the dilapidated condition of the flyover and asked the department officials to work out strategies to repair the flyover or construct a new one.
The two Parliamentary Secretaries also inspected the Kuda (Nagarjan)-Thahekhu railway crossing and Thahekhu railway crossing. Both the Parliamentary Secretaries and department officials concurred on construction of flyovers at the two crossings to ease traffic congestion in the main city.
Chairman Development Authority Nagaland, Jacob Zhimomi, MLA, also joined the inspection of the new Dimapur district headquarters and DC office complex, Chumukedima. Later, at a press briefing at Niathu Resort, the three Parliamentary Secretaries said they would coordinate with each other in accelerating development in Dimapur district.
Zhaleo informed that plans are afoot to build circular roads connecting to the new district headquarters besides building a ‘city centre’ and urban amenities near the DC complex. He also disclosed that a ‘city centre’ would soon come up in Medziphema town.
Tovihoto said proper drainage system and easing of traffic in Dimapur should be taken up on immediate basis. Jacob also highlighted on illegal occupation and encroachment of government land and property, which were coming in the way of development.
