
Shillong May 6 (MExN): With an objective to enhance the knowhow and practical skills of the community regarding tourism and its sustainable practices, the Department of Tourism and Travel Management, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) organised an awareness programme on 'Tourism sustainable practices' on May 5 in Syntung Village, East Khasi Hills,Meghalaya. Organised in collaboration with the NSS MLCU unit with the support of the Dorbar Shong, Syntung village, a press note informed that during the event, the students gave detailed presentation on the importance of learning to protect and conserve tourist sites for present and future economic benefits. They stressed on the use of the technologies like the Internet to create a buzz about their village so as to attract not only national but global tourists, it said. The students also highlighted the importance of cleanliness in the village as well as building a good rapport with the tourists while maintaining their own culture and tradition, it added. A short role play on the importance of positive hospitality towards the tourists was also performed by the students. Tribal Arunachali and Khasi dances were also performed. The villagers said that such learning opportunities will help them economically and also help the community work together for its betterment, it added. After the programme the students and faculty member were also given a special tour of the famous Wah Rashi falls.
