Mokokchung COVID-19 vaccination: ‘Better to be safe than sorry’

Dr HT Sangtam, Senior Specialist, IMDH who was the first person to get COVID-19 vaccination at Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), Mokokchung said, “I am fully confident with the vaccine. It is better to be safe than sorry. The vaccine has been produced after conducting so much trails and tests so we shouldn't be skeptical about it.”

Dr Sangtam added, “There are always adverse effects in all immunization and vaccination. We should not be scared and we should not believe all the negative aspects of the vaccine that are circulated as news.”

The COVID-19 vaccination programme at IMDH was launched by Shashank Singh, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Mokokchung on January 16.

The ADC Mokokchung said that all apprehensions and doubts with regard to the vaccine should be removed and there should not be any hesitancy. “The vaccine is beneficial for everybody and we should all educate and convince on the efficacy of the vaccine,” he added. 

Dr Sathya Bhas Karan, WHO Consultant was also present at the programme, advised the gathering to follow COVID-19 appropriate behavior even after getting vaccinated. Yanglo Pongen, Associate pastor, MTBA pronounced the dedicatory prayer for the COVID-19 vaccine while Dr R Chubala Aier, Chief Medical Officer, Mokokchung chaired the launch  programme.
