The Mokokchung District Bharat Scouts and Guides (MDBSG) marked its 75th anniversary on October 25 at P. Shilu Memorial Park, with Metsubo Jamir, Minister for Rural Development and SIRD, serving as the chief guest.
In his address, Jamir recounted the origins of scouting and guiding, both globally and in Nagaland, highlighting the establishment of MDBSG in 1949 under the leadership of the late Lolennokchaba, guided by the late Mayangnokcha. He emphasized the role of scouts and guides in instilling values such as observation, self-sacrifice, and dedication, urging them to cultivate a community that recognizes its collective impact on society.
"With leadership comes accountability. We must hold ourselves to the highest standard of conduct, inspiring respect, trust, and a spirit of solidarity," Jamir stated. He encouraged the audience to reflect on their responsibilities and the sacrifices made in their journey of community service. He concluded with a call to action, urging scouts and guides to champion their cause and work together for the betterment of their community.
The event featured a historical overview of MDBSG delivered by Lipokmar Longkumer, District Officer (S), along with speeches from V.K Shah, State Commissioner (S) Nagaland State BSG, Sentinenla, DEO & DCC (G) Mokokchung, and Moajenba, a former scout. Jamir also unveiled the jubilee souvenir.
During the celebrations, competitions such as cooking without utensils and tent pitching were held. Commandant, Assam Rifles Mokokchung served as the Campfire Chief during the jubilee campfire session. He remarked that scouting and guiding are not just activities but essential life skills that help shape character.
Neinou Iralu, State Commissioner (G) of Nagaland Bharat Scout and Guides, reflected on the MDBSG's remarkable journey and the contributions of its pioneers. She encouraged participants to ignite their passion for community service and strive for continuous improvement.
The event included various performances from BSG groups from schools across Mokokchung. A platinum jubilee resolution was adopted, focusing on the development of a camping site for MDBSG and a five-year action plan to promote BSG units in educational institutions. Vote of thanks was delivered by Tovili Wati, District Officer (G) Mokokchung.
