Mon District hospital conducts workshop on immunization and vaccine usage

Dimapur/ Mon, May 26 (MExN): A one day workshop on ‘RI Strengthening and Vaccine Preventable Diseases Surveillance’ was conducted on May 22 at District Hospital, conference hall, Mon.  The training was attended by the Medical Officers, Community Health Officers CHO, Nurses, Block Programme Manager, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme team led by District Surveillance Officer, a press release stated. 

Dr Wungyong DPO (UIP/RCH) began the training by the introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine PCV 14 vaccine, its operational guidelines, the order in which vaccinations should be administered, how to store vaccines, the eVIN vaccine, and logistics management. Subsequently, he gave all staff members an advice to persuade people and educate them about the value of vaccination against the side effects that can occur after receiving it. He underlined and pushed the importance of teaching the apprehensive and the deniers.

The training was then taken over by Dr Sheila Longkumer, SMO WHO, who revised the sessions in minute detail regarding surveillance of vaccine-preventable diseases, including measles, rubella, AFP (acute flaccid paralysis), diphtheria, neonatal tetanus and pertussis: definition, clinical courses, complications, management, reporting, and vaccination status.

Later, Dr Longkumer discussed the significance of the Routine Immunization microplan and the planning requirements in order to reinforce RI. The course also covered National Immunization Schedule, Cold Chain, Adverse Effect Following Immunization (AEFI) and Communication strategies.
