Mon: Taking forward SDGs as index indicates need for improvement

Mon, September 20 (MExN): District level workshop on building capacities for taking forward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held at DC Conference Hall, Mon on September 20. This workshop was chaired by District Planning Officer, and other dignitaries present were Deputy Commissioner and district-level department officials, stated a DIPR report. 

There were two technical sessions held by Team SDG Coordination Centre (SDGCC), Planning & Coordination Department as part of this workshop. The first technical session was held on SDG localisation and integration with a focus on Mon district. The national, state and district level institutional mechanism and strategy for SDG implementation, District Indicator Framework for monitoring the SDGs and way forward was shared during this session. Through this presentation, those indicators (as part of the North East Region SDG Index – Baseline Report 2021-22) which require improvement in Mon district were also highlighted.

Following this session, the keynote address was shared by the Deputy Commissioner, Thavaseelan K, IAS who emphasized about the need to improve district SDG performance as was also highlighted in the NER SDG Index that was recently released. He also highlighted that regular data monitoring will be critical in order to reflect the right data for the district.

The keynote address was followed by the Interactive Session which consisted of interactive exercises for identifying the priority areas and viable local level solutions for Mon district for all relevant departments.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks which was given by the District Planning Officer where he thanked the Deputy Commissioner and all the district level department officials as well as Team SDGCC, Planning & Coordination Department. He highlighted that the workshop will be very useful to take forward the SDGs in the district. 

Prior to this, similar district level workshops have been held in 10 districts of Nagaland and the same has been planned for the remaining district of Kohima as well.
