Mongmong festival greetings

Kohima, September 2 (MExN): Governor of Assam and Nagaland Prof Jagdish Mukhi has extended warm Mongmong greetings to Sangtam brothers and sisters and to the people of Nagaland.

The Governor in his message stated that this beautiful festival is a celebration for good harvest. Mongmong is also a time of togetherness, sharing of produce and forgiveness. Sanitation and repairment of public infrastructure are carried out by the villagers during this time. Traditional rituals performed reflect the importance of the villagers to live in harmony with the environment. Love, care and unity are the wonderful essence of this festival.

“Let us celebrate Mongmong observing Covid-19 protocols. On this auspicious occasion, I wish you all good health, happiness and prosperity. God bless Nagaland!” he added. 

The Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton in his greeting to the Sangtam community on the occasion of Mongmong said that it is a festival associated with harvest and other significant rituals. He also said that Mongmong itself means togetherness forever, therefore believe that it will be celebrated living up to its meaning. On behalf of the state BJP legislators, the Dy CM conveyed heartiest festive greetings and hope that the celebrations will bring prosperity and unity to the people. 

The NSCN/GPRN (Akato Chophi) conveyed greetings on the occasion of Mongmong festival of the Sangtam Nagas. Mongmong is one of the most important festivals of the Sangtam community. The main reason to celebrating this festival is to worship the deity of the house and three cooking stones in the fire place, it stated. “The NSCN invokes God's blessings to be upon our Sangtam brothers and sisters and may this festival bring prosperity and good tidings to the Sangtam people,” it added.

The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Nagaland unit has also extended greetings to the Sangtam Community of Nagaland on the occasion of Mongmong. “May this auspicious festival bring prosperity, good health and happiness to all,” it stated.
