Newmai News Network Chandel | November 7 The Sirti Upa Ruh (Monsang Tribe Union), the apex body of Monsang Naga people has denounced and strongly condemned the "inscribing" of Monsang Naga tribe on the monolith called ‘Pathen Tonsot Songpi’ erected at Khulmun village, Churachandpur district "without" the concerned knowledge of the Monsang Naga people. A meeting was held on last Saurday in this regard at at Liwa Sarei Village Community Hall with the presence of all the Monsang leaders from Sirti Eruwng Ruh (Monsag Chiefs Association), Sirti Sarnuw Ruh (Monsang Women Union), Sirti Thiijiitam Sourkhe (Monsang Students’ Union), Monsang Officers’ Association (MOA) and Monsang Language and Literature Society (MLLS). The participants said that erecting "such politicizing" monolith “must be condemned" by one and all. "Inclusion of Naga tribes in the monolith as Kuki tribes is very immature on the part of the Kukis. Such politicizing act should not be repeated in future. The traditional village system administration of Monsang Naga is democracy from time immemorial which is absolutely different from the Kukis," the Monsang apex body said. It then stated that the Monsang tribe is the indigenous Naga tribe settlers of Chandel district alone with the other Naga tribes. The first elected MLA (Territorial Council Member of Manipur) representing Chandel district was from Monsang Naga community in the person of Late Ng Mono Monsang of Liwachangning village in the year 1948. “The Monsang Naga tribe is officially recognized by the Government of India as one of the Scheduled Tribes of India in the year 1956 Vide Notification No SRO 24744 dated 29 October 1956,” it pointed out.
