AR initiates road repair from Kanjang to Akhen village covering 11 km

Kohima, May 30 (MExN): As the battle is on for the non-completion of the three road projects under Meluri sub-division, the setting of monsoon brought more miseries to the people.

“As the monsoon has set in, there are frequent landslides on this stretch of road. Also due to non-existence of proper road and incessant rains, the route becomes very slushy and slippery hampering the movement of vehicles and trucks plying on the route for transporting goods and fetching daily essential items for the local population,” stated the Akhen village chief, Lather Pojar and head GB, Sipiru in a press release.

They stated that this road stretch during heavy rains, this stretch of road becomes immotorable even for Shaktiman trucks. Thereby, causing inconvenience beyond expression and imagination to the commuter.

“It was very unfortunate to state that the condition of the road which was to be repaired, despite enough funds having been release, the contractors forfeited the construction of this road route and only shown it in white paper with no work done on ground,” village leaders alleged.

However, amidst their suffering, they stated that the 38th Assam Rifles F Coy under the leadership of Major Piyush Bhatt, Post Cdr of Akhen post repaired the deplorable road from Kangjang to Akhen village under Meluri Sub-Division, Phek District covering 11 km at the “cost of their own expense, manpower and machineries.” The villagers have thanked the 38th Assam Rifles for their “self-initiative” for the betterment of the villages in the area.
