It asserted that the accused should not be granted bail under any circumstances.
NEDF: North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) asserted that the person who has committed the crime should not be spared instead stringent punishment should be assured. A press release from the Forum’s convenor, U Nobokishore meanwhile noted that after the incident, “there has been a tension circulated among the deceased community and the community of the culprit. It could also be observed that such kind of incident has been committed in order to make erupt a communal clash between the two communities.”
Since the last many decades, it said, people in North East have been facing serious atrocities committed by the armed state forces wherein mostly the women have been targeted. “The trend has now slowly been shifted to the common masses and the most vulnerable section of the society are made victim of such violent act.”
NEDF appealed to all the communities to cooperate with the law enforcing department involved in the investigation so the accused could be given befitting punishment as per the rule of law.
SCD: The Sumi Council, Dimapur (SCD) maintained that crime itself is deplorable, “but a brutal murder in the heart of the town that too in the peak hours is nothing short of barbaric.” It demanded that the accused, who is now in police custody, be given exemplary punishment and set an example for everybody to take note. The SCD through its chairman, Kuhoi Zhimo also conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
