More in Nagaland join statewide Swachhata Hi Seva campaign

Dimapur, September 29 (MExN): The statewide mass social work in Nagaland under the Swachhata Hi Seva (Cleanliness is service) saw the participation of government officials, village functionaries, party leaders, civil societies, NGOs, municipal councils and citizens on September 29. The mass social work will be conducted throughout the state till October 2.  

Dimapur: Inaugural programme for flagging off mass social work at Dimapur district was held at City Tower Dimapur. PHED Minister Jacob Zhimomi and Deputy Speaker, Zhaleo Rio, Advisor Power, Tovihoto Ayemi addressed the gathering. DC Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel, IAS who chaired the programme also read out the Swachh Pledge. A mass social work for Dimapur district was launched by the Legislators of Dimapur District including MP Lok Sabha, Tokheho.  

Zunheboto: Zunheboto district conducted mass social work with participation of the GBs and ward Chairmen and citizens. Zunheboto Administration monitored the work. Reward for best participating ward will be awarded basing on participation of people, execution of work and disposal of garbage.  

On September 30, Swachata pledge will be taken in all the churches around Zunheboto. On October 1, social work will be conducted in all government and private schools and awards will be given for 1st 2nd and 3rd best participating schools and the judging parameters will be dustbin availability and maintenance, cleanliness of the compound, beautification, participation of students, availability of separate toilets and cleanliness. On October 2, social work in all the government offices and office premises will be done.  

Wokha: In Wokha, Deputy Chief Minister & Minister for Home, Y. Patton and MLA Dr. Chumben Murry took part during the cleanliness drive. While speaking on health sector and healthy environment in Wokha district, Y. Patton stated that the district will very soon enforce banning of tobacco related products in our district. MLA Dr. Chumben Murry called upon the people of the district to maintain our surrounding clean and healthy environment which will also help to bring changes in our society. DC Wokha Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon also spoke during the function. Three cleanest colony will be selected basing on their performance and will be awarded during the culmination programme which will be held on October 2.  

Kiphire: As directed by the Government of Nagaland, Kiphire held mass social work in all the eleven wards. The works were carried out under the initiative of the district administration, ward chairman and head of offices.  

Tuensang: DC Tuensang, L. Jamithung Lotha launched Swachhata Hi Seva at Clock Tower Tuensang. While briefing the participants of the programme, he said that one must keep surroundings clean and make use of the dust bins to dispose waste. The programme was chaired by Extra Assistant Commissioner, Vikhoto Richa and special number was presented by Lirili Sangtam.  

Phek: Phek District observed a programme under the theme ‘Town Cleanliness & Beautification Drive’ jointly organised by Phek Town Council, DDMA with Phek Town Youth Society. The DC Phek called upon the people to give their best effort for betterment of living standard. A pledge was taken for a cleaner Phek town. A brief function was also held at Phek Town Baptist Church Junction where the function was chaired by Avelu Ruho ADC & Administrator, PTC; prayer was pronounced by PTBC Youth Director, Chivo Medeo and short speech was delivered by PTYS President Neizote Venuh. Further, on October 1 all wards and NGOs will be carrying out a mass social work at Phek Government College for which all government departments have been informed to conduct social work in their respective compounds and surroundings.  

Mokokchung: Swachh Bharat programme with the theme ‘One Step towards Cleanliness’ was flagged off in Mokokchung district at Imlong Place. Brand Ambassador Swachh Bharat Mission, Supongmeren flagged off the programme in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal and Bendangnukshi District Ambassador (SBM). Medziphema: In Medziphema Sub-Division, the inaugural programme was graced by Deputy Speaker NLA, Zhaleo Rio IAS (Retd). Zhaleo exhorted the people to maintain clean and green Nagaland and rebuild our state to higher level he praised the administration and the public and various organizations for their active participation. After the inaugural programme, social work was conducted in all colonies. Clearing of clogged drainage and repair of pot holes in the roads were the main features of the cleanliness campaign.  

Longleng: A mass social work was organized by the district administration under Longleng town. In order to supervise and monitor the cleanliness drive, 20 government officers were selected and entrusted with the task to oversee 13 wards including Hamlikong village. Vehicles and machineries were also deployed to dispose of the waste and garbage. BJP Longleng District also conducted social work at District Hospital, Longleng.  

Mangkolemba: Citizens of the Mangkolemba Town areas conducted a mass social work in and around Mangkolemba Town Areas with Adviser, Law & Justice, Border Affairs, Treasuries & Accounts, Dr. Logrineken Ao joining it. Starting the work from the Zero Point, Mangkolemba Town, more than 900 people including students, youth, GBs, Colony Chairmen from the Nine Wards under Mangkolemba Town Council and also officials from all the Departments under ADC, Mangkolemba participated in the cleanliness drive. During the drive, local contractors provided their JCB and others with their vehicles.  

Niuland: Continuing the fortnightly campaign of Swachhata Hi Seva, Niuland ADC office organised a mass gathering of its village leaders and officers in collaboration with PHED Niuland Sub Division.  

The chief patron for the programme was minister PHED Jacob Zhimomi. The programme was conducted by the administrative officers under Niuland ADC HQ with the implementation report presented by the PHED.The report highlighted the way forward from 2014 when SBM (G) was launched and has now achieved the target of 100% ODF by constructing 7618 toilets since then. The way forward from here in will be sustained through Community Approach to Sanitation method which has been found to be an effective tool with huge success rates for ODF districts or states in the country. Instead of outside forces, local leaders will facilitate the behavioural change by involving the public to share their ideas and benefits of adopting good sanitation practices.  

This was earlier initiated on September 24 by launching the ‘Swachagrahis' or foot soldiers to propagate the message of sanitation by the department where 180 trained Swachagrahis were sent out.  

Aghunato: Following the directives of Home Department (NSDMA), a mass social work was organised on in Aghunato town with Advisor for F & CS, NSDMA and LMCP Pukhayi as the chief participant. Pukhayi interacted with the landowners and visited the site for construction of town hall. He also visited old ADC’s residence which remains in dilapidated state. ADC Aghunato Nchumbemo appraised for raising a new building, which will be cost effective. GBs, Adhoc Town Committee members, various Government departmental staffs, elders, students and the general public took part in the cleaning of town.  

78 Battalion CRPF: The 78 Battalion CRPF, Zubza village and Company locations at Kohima under the leadership of Surender Singh, Commandant launched the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign on September 15. Besides the cleanliness drive, they also created awareness among the villagers on the importance of waste-disposal and clean surroundings etc. Banner with slogans on Swachhata Abhiyan were also displayed at various places. Unit Commandant briefed the officers, men, villagers and children of Government High School Sechü-Zubza regarding Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign and conducted a rally with banners, plug cards outside the school premises.  

KVK Tuensang: As part of Swachhta Hi Sewa Campaign, a village level awareness programme was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tuensang on better sanitation practices like using a toilet, handwashing, health and hygiene awareness at GHS, Kuthur Village.  

Deliberating on the activities of Swachhta Hi Sewa, Pakom Phom, SDO(C) Tuensang encouraged the Kuthur village council, teachers and students of the school to practice better sanitation practices in and around the village and the school campus. Awareness of clean sanitation practices was delivered by Dr Shisarenla Aier, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture). She explained the steps involved in maintaining a good hygiene and sanitation starting from home to the school campus for a healthy wellbeing of the students.  

Waste bins- green for wet disposal (Organic waste), blue for dry disposal (recyclable waste) and red for reject waste (non biodegradable) were also donated by the Kendra. The programme was chaired by Tokiho Achumi, Asst Chief Technical Officer (Agronomy), KVK Tuensang. Altogether 147 participants including students, teachers, church leaders, village council members, two members from administration and KVK staffs Tuensang attended the programme.
