More observes International day of Girl child in Nagaland

Dimapur, October 14 (MExN): With the objective to “promote empowerment of girls and fulfillment of their human right,” more activities marked the celebration of International day of Girl child in different places in Nagaland. 

 

Peren: Peren District Administration, District Level Centre for Women-Mahila Shakti Kendra conducted an awareness programme on child rights under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) at Jalukie Town Local Baptist Church on October 13.


Resource Person Women Welfare Officer (WWO), MSK (BBBP), Heiriateilie, spoke on the importance of child rights and to eradicate discrimination faced by the girl child. She also said that the basic rights of the children need to keep on advancing in providing opportunities that has an important effect on all children.


The programme was chaired by Children Associate Pastor, Ndazeung Hingleu and invocation prayer was pronounced by Jalukie Town Local Pastor, Dr. Mongzeung Mpom. Three classes from Sunday School Department attended the awareness programme.

 

Angjangyang: International day of Girl child was celebrated at Angjangyang subdivision with the theme ‘Little girls with dreams become woman with a vision’ at Multipurpose Hall, Angjangyang HQ on October 11.


President LASU & Social worker Wangkhao was the resource person of the program .Other highlights of the program included keynote address by Yanithung Ngullie SDO (C) Angjangyang and invocation by Pastor AJBC Nokyin and recital of ‘my dream as a girl child’ by Rebecca a student of GHS Angjangyang. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Echem DB and program was chaired by Engo.

 

Tangnyu: International Girls Child Day celebration was observed in Tangnyu Village under Mon District on the theme ‘Girl force: Unscripted and Unstoppable’ at Council hall on October 11.


Supervisor, Social Welfare Department L.Amei Konyak highlighting the significance of International Girls Child Day and said that the day is celebrated to address the needs and challenges faced by girls. She added that the day is also to create awareness and educate the general mass to solve the issues being face by girl child.


Mon Block co-ordinator Poshan Abhiyan, Yingphe deliberated on the objectives of Nutritional Nutrition Mission and stressed on improving the nutritional status of children below 6 years, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

 

Kiphire: International Day of the Girl Child was celebrated at Kiphire town on October 11 at DC Conference hall, Kiphire with the theme, “Little Girl with dreams become women with vision".


SDO (C) Nyempo Wallim encouraged the students to cultivate the spirit of competition and to dream big in order to become successful. Langkhuli of Saramati view Modern school was the winner in the extempore speech and Seoul of Agape school bagged 2nd. In the prepared speech category Chutiya of Eastern Christian School and Cip Bose of Saramati view modern school won 1st and 2nd prizes respectively. Altogether 11 students participated in extempore and prepared speech.

 

Chen: Along with the rest of the country, Chen Head Quarter also observed International Day of the Girl Child, with the theme ‘Little girls with dreams became women with vision’ at R. D conference hall Chen Town on October 11. The event was organised by Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Task force Chen.


SDO Civil Chen L. Samuel Konyak said that the day is observed to raise the awareness about the challenges that girls’ face and need for empowerment and fulfilment of their human rights. He also encouraged the students to put more effort in their studies and give their best in whatever they do.


Dr. Shokwang Konyak, MO Chen Town said that cleanliness and good Hygiene contributes to better health care and encouraged girls to maintain good hygiene. He also emphasized on environment cleanliness and added that it can prevent many infectious diseases.


GHSS Chen Head master speaking at the program encouraged the participants by citing example of Kiran Bedi, the first IPS Officer, Mary Kom the Olympic Boxer and Sania Mirza the Indian Professional Tennis Players. As a part of the programme, Essay writing competition was conducted on the topic, the theme of the Day “little girls with dreams became women with vision” and sanitary pad was distributed to the students.


Door-to-door awareness campaign 
To mark the beginning of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) week, the Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) District Level Centre for Women, Peren in collaboration with the District Administration and ICDS started a door-to-door awareness campaign at Jalukie ‘B’ village on October 12. The campaign is to create awareness and to sensitize the community about the need to promote empowerment of a girl child.


Women Welfare Officer, MSK (BBBP), Heireiteilei highlighted the importance and significance of educating girls and its target to improve the child sex ratio. Gift hampers were also distributed to a newly born girl child.
