Dimapur, September 16 (MExN): More organisations have come out in support of the call made by the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union to revoke the COVID-19 cess on fuel.
On September 16, the Kuki Students’ Organisation Nagaland (KSON) through its Media Cell appealed to the state government to look into the issue of hike in petrol and diesel prices in the greater interest of the public.
“At such a time when the general public is trying to recover from the effects of the extensive lockdown, the continual imposition of cess on essential commodities such as fuel prices has proven to be a great burden to businesses especially small enterprises and transportation services which directly or indirectly affects the public,” the KSON said.
While acknowledging the efforts undertaken by the Government of Nagaland in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic in the state, the KSON said it was imperative that the State Government empathise with the woes of the public and revoke the hike with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the Chakhesang Students’ Union Dimapur also expressed support to the DNSU and demanded that the cess be revoked.
Stating that the central government “had sanctioned enough funds to the state to respond to the pandemic,” it said that the government “should not take advantage of the pandemic but be responsible and revoke the COVID-19 cess on fuel immediately.”
