More orgs denounces alleged attempted ‘rape and murder’

Kohima, July 22 (MExN): The Northern Angami Women Organisation (NAWO) and Kense clan of Tuophezou have vehemently condemned the alleged “attempted rape and murder” of a mother of four children on July 16. The accused is reportedly under police custody.

“Such despicable and inhumane crime is an anathema to a civilised society,” the NAWO stated in its condemnation, extending its strong solidarity and support top the victim and her family in this time of distress.

The Organisation also urged the investigating agency to conduct a “thorough probe into the matter, free from any procedural infirmity, and place the matter before the judicial forum at the earliest in order that justice may be delivered.”

It also appealed the criminal justice delivery system to perform to the best of its ability so that “justice may not only be done, but also be seen to be done.”

The NAWO reiterated its reminder to all citizens, particularly those within its jurisdiction, to uphold and abide by the rule of law, which it described as the foundation of a civilised society.

Meanwhile, the Kense Clan of Tuophezou vehemently condemned the incident as “barbaric and inhuman,” stating that such acts have no place in a civilised society. The Clan identified the alleged perpetrator as one  Khrietuolie Kense of Tsiemekhu Basa Village.

Empathising with the victim for the physical injuries and severe mental trauma endured, the Clan offered prayers for her swift and complete recovery.

It also urged the law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation, file the necessary charges, and ensure a prompt trial to deliver befitting and exemplary punishment to the perpetrator, as per the provisions of the law.

‘The same should serve as a deterrent for recurrence of such grave nature of crimes, particularly against women,’ it added.

Under no circumstances and no one should try to circumvent the law and no leniency should be allowed in this particular case, the Clan asserted.
