True recognition by the Nagaland government for famed international archer Chekrovolu Swuro appears not so distant –particularly after she has made the headlines as one of India’s hopefuls among the Indian squad headed for the London Olympics – as it has been revealed that the state government is at least trying to show its appreciation to the second Naga Olympian and first Naga woman Olympian by giving her a “double promotion” from SI to DSP besides naming her as among the recipients of an initiative to encourage and promote young Naga achievers.

Director of the State’s Youth Resources and Sports department, Kelei Zeliang said today that her double promotion from SI to DSP under the state police department is already under process and that her name has already been included in an initiative by the Chief Minister to encourage and promote young talents by instituting a unique award – the first of its kind in the history of the state - Chief Minister’s Young Naga Achievers Awards”, to be conferred on Nagaland Statehood Day on 1st December. The award would include citation, memento and cash incentive, Zeliang said while admitting that the cash amount is yet to be finalized.

Describing her as one of the biggest achievers among the Nagas so far, the Youth Resources Director expressed firm conviction that she would win medals and bring laurels and recognition to the state as well as the nation.

He also said he, along with Youth Resources and Sports Secretary Sachopra Vero and Nagaland Archery Coach Hunezo Thisa met Miss Swuro at Kolkota prior to her departure to London during which retired DGP Nagaland K. Kire had announced of her impending promotion from SI to DSP under the police department.

Zeliang, however, disclosed that in terms of sponsoring Miss Swuro, the state is doing virtually nothing on account that the Central Government is fully sponsoring her as one of the members of the Indian squad to represent the nation in the London Olympics. Meanwhile, following the announcement of Chekrovolu Swuro as among the members of the Indian squad to represent the country in the London

Olympics, congratulatory notes continue to pour in from various corners of the state.
