More seats for MBBS & BDS please: ANCSU

Kohima, June 2 (MExN): The number of candidates in Nagaland aspiring to undergo MBBS and BDS is increasing each year. Yet, due to a tight crunch in the number of allocated seats for Nagaland State, many are deprived of studying the courses. The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has now written to Nagaland State Minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, with a prayer for acquiring additional seats to MBBS and BDS courses for Nagaland State. The ANCSU’s letter stated that it is “well informed that the Central Ministry has enhanced the seats for undergoing MBBS and BDS all over India. Over the years Nagaland State has benefited very limited seats for the students of Nagaland for undergoing MBBS and BDS. During the past years the State Government has failed to initiate for acquiring additional seats for our students for undergoing the mentioned course.” It informed that aspiring candidates to the courses are “dramatically increasing every year” but due to the shortage of seats, “thousands of aspiring students for undergoing MBBS and BDS are deprived every year at large.” Thus, the ANCSU hoped the Nagaland State machinery will take “necessary steps and acquire additional seats from the concerned Ministry for the welfare and benefit of the student’s community and Naga society in general.” The letter was signed by ANCSU Vice President and Grievances Committee Chairperson, Benjong Longchar, and Assistant General Secretary, Imnameren N Jamir.
