More voices against Assam police in border

Dimapur, March 26 (MExN):  Naga villages bordering with Assam continue to decry atrocities of Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF) and Assam police. The villagers are desperately requesting the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland to reestablish the NAP post or at least open a Police Beat post in the foothill of Yimpang area in the interest of the people.
A concerned villager of Kulajan today took the initiative to write to the apathetic Government of Nagaland to reestablish the Nagaland Armed Police force in the area to protect the welfare and lives of the Nagas villages there.
The worried villager C Kikon wrote a letter today lamenting that the harassment and loss of lives in the hands of Assam people backed by the Assam police continue to go unreported. The notorious so-called “neutral” CRPF post at Kulajan are ‘one-sided’ the letter said.
Kulajan village is located about 6-7 kilometers from Merapani town in the foothills of Yimpang village. Influx of immigrants from Assam has taken over the neighboring villages leaving the Naga villagers landless, the letter said. The Nagaland government had opened the post in the foothills of Yimpang village called “Ethung post” during which the people of the area had lived in peace, the villager said. However, the government withdrew the NAP post, complying with agreements but Assam government established two posts including police posts.
Since the Assam police established the posts there, Kikon said, Naga villagers of the area are facing untold hardships. Harassment and loss of lives in the hands of Assamese people backed by the Assam police has been on for the past 30 to 35 years, the letter said. These sufferings go unreported and the .police or the administrations hardly visit the areas, the letter said.
The letter also mentioned that the CRPF post at Kulajan is anything but “neutral”. The force is one-sided and the public are facing problems, Kikon said. To illustrate his point, the citizen said in January-March 11 alone machete-wielding Assamese people injured two Yimpang villagers.
