
Mokokchung, May 12 (MExN): Late K. Mayanger of Longkhum village, a young Naga ‘national worker’ like many before him lost his life while fighting for an ‘Independent Nagaland’ in 1979. He was killed somewhere in ‘Eastern Nagaland’. Since 2003 concerted efforts towards bringing back his mortal remains were made. However it was only after Thirty years since he passed away that his mortal remains was finally brought back home. Family members of late K. Mayanger, today organized a Memorial service at his parental home, attended by some of his friends, contemporaries, besides a host of well wishers.
His elder brother Talitemsu narrated an account of his late brother Mayanger, who was born April 23, 1948. Tinumayang, a close family friend also recounted how they searched for, found and brought back home the remains of Mayanger. Alemwati, Tatar of Longkhum Village Council, a childhood friend T.Senka, and fellow member of Seasonal Club Apogn Pongen also spoke at the Memorial. President of Ao Senden, President of Ongpangkong Mungdang, President of AKM, Chairman of Penli Ward Union and President of Longkhum Union Mokokchung, and a contemporary Major Temsu were the others who spoke at the Memorial. Mayanger’s mortal remains were finally laid to rest in his family graveyard, in Alichen.
