MORTH has sanctioned funds for road work of NH-26 & NH-02

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 29 (MExN): The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) have accorded sanction for the following works on the city portion of NH-29 & NH-02 in Dimapur and in Kohima, the Office of the Chief Engineer (National Highways), Kohima has announced again.  

In a press release, Chief Engineer PWD (National Highways), Kohima said the sanction includes improvement of city portion of NH-29 in Dimapur from Km 106.90 to Km 124.20 (from New Field Check Gate to Patkai Bridge via Tragopan Jn –Burma Camp, Purana Bazaar Jn.-Chumukedima) which includes 4-Laning of the stretch from Zion Hospital Jn to Chumukedima and improvement of city portion of Kohima from Km 177.60 to Km 187.60 (from KMC Gate to New Reserve Police Check Gate via TCP Gate- PHQ Jn –Lerie).  

The PWD (National Highways) has taken over the above stretches from another agency during November, 2017 and the actual project implementation will start as soon as the necessary technical formalities are completed, it stated. However, the amount sanctioned by MORTH for the road works along the city portion of the NH was not specified in the press release.  

In this connection, the PWD (NH) has sought the co-operation and assistance of all the stakeholders i.e. administration and police departments, other concerned departments, civil societies, village council authorities, organizations and all individuals for successful implementation of the project.  

Meanwhile, in view of the deteriorated condition of the road, the PWD (NH) said it is carrying out emergency repair works in both the road stretches at Kohima and Dimapur as an interim arrangement before commencement of the actual execution of works.  

Same announcement made in June 2017?

It may be recalled that on June 20, 2017 the Nagaland PWD (NH), in response to the 10-day ultimatum issued by Western Sumi Students’ Union’s (WSSU) to the Chief Minister to intervene and address the pathetic road condition in Dimapur had issued the same or similar information, at least for the improvement of Dimapur city portion of NH-29 & NH-129.  

It informed during that time that the MORTH has accorded sanction for improvement of city portion of Dimapur (NH-29 & NH-129) from Nagaland Gate (Golaghat Road) to Patkai Bridge (Via Tragopan Jn- Zion Hospital Jn- Purana Bazar-Chumukedima) for a total length of 17.30 kilometers.  

Further, the State PWD (NH) said it has been entrusted to execute the work on Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode, adding that national bids for the work was invited by the State PWD (NH) and final approval and sanction pertaining to the tender bids is expected from MORTH within a few days’ time.  

Once the sanction and approval is received from the Ministry, the State PWD will take over this stretch of road from the BRO and the work will be awarded for execution, it had stated.
