MORUNG SUGGESTION PLATFORM: Dear Readers, Nagaland has resources with the potential to develop and progress. This is an opinion one hears quite often. These are some of the suggestions on what strategic policy decisions and practical steps the Nagaland go

•    Though Nagaland is rich in natural resources the scope of growth is very little because we do not have honest and sincere leaders who have the vision and love for the people and land. Also, the public seem to be following the same footstep as their leaders and are as corrupt as their leaders. A people without a vision will perish.

•    First, we need to assess the natural resources we have in Nagaland. So far, the statistics we have on our natural resources are not complete. Second, the government must focus on building human resources. We have many talented people but the government is not doing enough to develop our human resources. This does not mean sending selected individuals abroad, but this means having a policy to build on local capacity by bringing in people from outside to train our local young people. It also means we should support local people who have come back home after years of training outside. Thirdly, we must protect and conserve our natural resources. Fourthly, we must have the right people with the right tools doing the right job. Fifthly, there must be proper monitoring of all natural resources and projects.

•    Both government and the public know what should and can we do. We have learnt a lot and lot to learn. But of all the steps required to be taken, we must change our MINDSET, the hardest of all, yet not impossible. Secondly, government must understand that they are servant of the people, which is the root of corruptions. However, the actual response should be the government must impress the investor by adopting various incentive schemes, tax rebate, implement system of ease of doing business, safety & security of the investors, besides development of road & other infrastructure in our state on top priority. Public should also know that we are living in corporate world, we cannot live like others without others.

•    To begin with, Nagaland is very bountiful in natural resources. This unexplored Natural resources is what we can see today Nagas to be high in unemployment and underdeveloped. We have rich forest and ecosystem enveloped in an area with essential medicinal plants, ores and minerals and substantial deposit of crude oils and natural gas. The development in the natural bamboo resources will greatly add to the development in Nagaland. Its ample knowledge in the human resources in arts and in making crafts will add huge benefits and involvement in employment. The government of Nagaland can play a huge role in structuralizing and maintaining the much needed cottage industry with the substitution of traditional methods with the upgraded modern technologies. Huge impact in economy can be made with the reforms in agriculture by imparting agricultural knowledge to the villagers and farmers emphasizing on climate change and use of effective method on agriculture by encouraging farmers to practice terrace cultivation. This can be promoted with the state government implementing schemes on irrigation and watershed development, install water pumps, building large water reservoir for the use of crops in cultivation. We have a high production of Naga Chillies and other agro fruits and crops, which will add to a greater income provided using cool storage in every protection area. Government of Nagaland with the stakeholders needs much deliberation on the exploration of natural resources and building up industries in the state. Human resources are also to be involved in skill development and vocational training to satisfy the above mentioned resources for the Nagas to prosper in the future.

•    The so called “resources” are mostly controlled by, you know who and the few industries set up sadly wither away in a short while.

•    To develop and progress, natural resources can be one of them before it get outdated

•    Because of the so call national worker which imposed a heavy tax we r not developing n not even a single industry was able to progress in Nagaland.

•    Only rhetoric. Neither the law makers who have power to make it reality is serious about it nor the people want to walk the extra mile.

•    Fear God. Focus on education.

•    Stop wine, sex, drugs, Rock n roll.

•    Nagaland and other places where Nagas reside indeed have resources untapped and unexplored is not an opinion but a fact! Look at the illegal coal mining happening in parts of Nagaland, look at the destruction of natural forest cover and the biodiversity we will be losing, along with our ancestral farmlands, under the context of prosperous palm oil cultivation! Do development and progress mean we exploit and destroy our own lands and the future prospectus, we have done enough harm and lesser good. Hate it or to understand that Nagaland having Article 371A under the constitution of India, is not just a Government role, we the people have been given equal rights to protect, preserve and ensure its prosperity and not destruction by Government, clan, tribe, or rule of law.  We have to start being practical, we have been impulsive and short-sighted, look at our roads, we wanted 4-Lanes at the cost of destroying a thousand trees of the natural diversity of streams, rivers, and trees along the roads, the roads and bridges are already starting to vanish before inaugural! We cannot copy what the west does or the rest of the country does, we have to know our reality and develop and progress accordingly! But we talk of development and progress, without knowing that thousands of Naga families are without daily wage, a secure roof over their heads, no access to clean drinking water, basic health care, and good access to education, and Rasta Kote use! Talk about tribalism, corruption, or nepotism! Development does not mean Kohima, Dimapur, or Mokokchung alone! We have to realize the sorry state of affairs we all are in, development and progress cannot go in hand with the destruction of land resources, corruption, and other problems that are a result of not knowing what and where our reality is! Some steps or strategies for SDGs, which may or may never happen for development! A) All district MLAs and Ministers, public elected officers go and settle in your Native areas, villages and disclose your Bank balance, at least we know which funds went where or nowhere! B)  All teachers to disclose which proxy they selected and the results on gambling away the student's future! C) All Government representatives past and present, Directors, ex-Directors, Asst. Directors and the other less/more directors of fund mismanagement, disclose their donations to their own personal account or the Church for salvation! D)  Last but mostly never the least, the public can disclose how much money they as individuals, families, extended families, clans, and tribes took to vote and vote Roxy or proxy for a Non-Accountable-wanna be millionaire Minister! Electing and awarding ourselves a non-functioning and unaccountable Government. Since we all have the same qualities because of our common love for smoked pork, and of going to heaven in our corrupted and tribalistic chariot of fire!  Unless we follow the above SDG-Self-Sustainable Developmental Goals, we are sure to go back to our headhunting times by sacrificing our heads for the future!
