Morung United FC retained the coveted champion title of 8th Morning Premier League 2024, which concluded here today at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima.
NPF Legislature Party leader Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu handed over the trophy to the champion team Morung United FC at the closing ceremony.
Special guests Lt. Colonel Puneet Sharma, 2nd -in-command, 13 Assam Rifles and Vimgha Sheqi, Miss Nagaland 2023 Ist Runner-up also handed over trophy to the individual winners
The individual winners included; Golden Glove- Ben (Unity FC), Golden Boot- Vila (Eagle FC) and Player of the Season/League- Asezo (Unity FC).
In his address, Azo expressed happiness over a group of intellectuals for coming together to promote football and also to promote health and friendship through sports.
Describing the MPL as a good gesture, Azo said “The government should also get involve to encourage such league.”
He congratulated Morung United FC for winning the trophy for second consecutive time.
“We must encourage our youngsters as we are second to none in any field,” he said and stressed on the need to go for professionalism in the sports industry.
Nagas truly lack one ingredient, i.e consistency, he said. To become a good sportsperson, he said, one has to adapt and inculcate consistency.
Time has come for the Nagas to take up sports very seriously, he added.
Sentiyanger, Convenor MPL 2024 Managing Committee expressed happiness over the successful conduct of the 8th edition and thanked all the players for displaying team spirit, brotherhood, camaraderie and friendship.
The prize distribution was led by Lipok, member MPL 2024 Managing Committee.
The programme was chaired by Moamar, member MPL 2024 Managing Committee. Lapla Tungoe presented special number while vote of thanks was proposed by Chiset, member MPL 2024 Managing Committee.
The five month long MPL 2024 was held under the aegis of Morning Football Association (MFA) with the theme “Health & Friendship.”
The 8th edition witnessed ten teams, which included; All Blacks FC, Eagle FC, Gethemgo FC, Kohima Police FC, Merhulietsa FC, Morning FC, Morung United FC, Mustang FC, Unity FC and Vanguard Old Boys FC. Morning Premier League (MPL) started during 2011.
