Moserbaer GTC School Chess Championship 2011 concludes

Kohima | July 14 : The “Moserbaer GTC School Chess Championship 2011” organised by GTC CHESS FOUNDATION came to a glittering end on Wednesday evening at the Guwahati Town Club auditorium. In a jam packed closing ceremony attended by over 250 people including players, guardians and guest, the prize were distributed to the winners in different categories. The chief guest for the evening was C.R Deka, Vice President, Reliance Telecommunication in the presence of Santanu Bharadwaj Phukan, Regional Manager, Moserbaer India limited as guest of honour, Tanmay Jyoti Mahanta, executive member, Gauhati Town club, former Ranji Trophy Cricketer Sajjad Zahir Hussain and Biswajit Bharadwaj, Director GTC Chess Foundation. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest Mr C.R Deka expressed his satisfaction on the conduction of the event and asserted the need of promoting the game of chess in the region. While Mr Santanu Bharadwaj Phukan said that he on behalf of Moserbaer India limited was delighted to be part of this mega chess event and promised to patronage chess in the coming years too. He also expressed the need of Chess among the young kids for their overall intellectual development and requested the parents to promote the game among their children.
In his closing speech, Biswajit Bharadwaj, Director of GTC Chess foundation also announced that the foundation has collaborated with two foreign chess clubs viz Himalayan Chess Club of Kathmandu and IWICA Chess Academy of Bangkok and is in the process of signing a MOU with 64 squares International Chess Academy of Sri-Lanka. This collaboration will enable the students of GTC Chess foundation to gain valuable experience and knowledge as regular exposure tours and players exchange programme will be held with these foreign clubs and academies.
The best school was presented with a cheque of Rs 10,000 and the “BEST SCHOOL” TROPHY and the School with the maximum number of participation was presented with a cheque of Rs 5000 and the "BEST PARTICIPATING SCHOOL" TROPHY. While the top 5 winner were presented with cash prizes of Rs 5000, Rs 4000, Rs 3000, Rs 2000 and Rs 1000 respectively. The Top three players in the each of the under 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15 age group categories were awarded with Medals and gift hampers. Also the top three girl participants were awarded medal and gift hampers too. The youngest participant of the event was awarded with a trophy and gift hamper.
Moreover the top 5 winners in this tournament has also qualified for a free advance level coaching under renowned International Master and former Commonwealth Chess Champion Mr Atanu Lahiri of West Bengal who is also the chief visiting coach of GTC Chess Foundation.
