Mount Tiyi College organises district level education seminar

Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): The Department of Education, Mount Tiyi College Wokha organized a “One Day District level Education Seminar” on the theme, “Community Based Educational practices and its development in Wokha District” on May 24.  

Held at MTC’s Seminar Hall, the programme was chaired by Azhanuo Peki, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, MTC, Wokha while Dr. Apeni Lotha, Principal MTC gave the opening address.  

The resource persons of the seminar were Sentimenla Jamir, Associate Professor, Department of Education MTC and Dr. Longshibemo Yanthan, Assistant professor, DIET, Wokha. Zhavituo-ü and Mhono Odyuo, both Assistant Professors, moderated the two sessions.  

Dwelling on the communitization porcess in Nagaland, Jamir noted that during the initial years, there was active community involvement but slowly the enthusiasm is dwindling.  

“It needs effective and strong participation to improve our educational system,” she added.  

Dr. Yanthan also emphasized on a research project which showed that Government Schools with higher community involvement were actually more active and performing better.  

He further said that teaching methodologies that need to be adopted inside the classroom to improve student analytical thinking for a creative mind rather than a convergent thinking.  

The seminar ended with a vote of thanks by Veto Nakro, an Assistant Professor of Education at MTC , informed a press release from the college.
