
Dimapur, September 5 (MExN): The Rajya Sabha MP, Khekiho Zhimomi, lamented on the sorry state of government schools in the state toady. His comments come at a time when the education department is still reeling under the ‘bogus appointment’ scam. Zhimomi pointed out that the highest budget is allocated to the education department yet government schools are deteriorating, “Government schools have come to a stage of total deformity,” the MP opined, and lamented that communitization has not changed the face of education in the state.
He pushed for more cooperation from all corners in order to enhance the quality of education.
On the occasion of teachers’ day celebrated in Dimapur, Zhimomi urged all teachers in Nagaland to rededicate themselves to their profession. He pointed out that the preference for private school education is hampering the economy of the state, and said “we have to start afresh. Unless we change ourselves, our future will be damaged.” He assured more support from the government.
Also reminding teachers of their noble profession, Zhimomi encouraged them top perform their duties with utmost regard for their profession. He pointed out that while many people have become teachers out of choice, there are many by default. Therefore, he urged the latter section recommit and take on their responsibilities with regard. “If you fail to deliver the goods, the product will be negative,” he said, which in turn will have a negative impact in society.
Eighteen teachers, from government and private schools, were honoured on the occasion. Zhimomi called them “fishers of men,” and appreciated their contributions in shaping the future of society.
ICFAI University students pay respect
ICFAI University, Nagaland celebrated the Teachers Day in the University campus at Nepali Basti, Dimapur. The programme was initiated by the students of BBA and MBA as a sign of respect to the faculties and staffs of the University. The programme was chaired by Chonbeni Jami, MBA. It started with invocation prayer by Seyievito (BCA). In the programme the students showered blessing and appreciated the handwork, love and dedication shown by their faculties. Special number was presented by Mhughali BBA. Faculties also spoke in the function. Students were urged to be sincere and to work hard inorder to be successful in the life and society. Lastly, vote of thank was delivered by Pooja Sharm, BBA.
Benri Jami, Development Officer, ICFAI University, Nagaland also informed in a press release that the ICFAI University was established by an Act of State Legislative Assembly 2006 in Nepali Basti Dimapur and presently running BBA, BCA and MBA courses.
Teachers told to uphold professional ethics
The students of Bethesda Higher Secondary School (BHSS), Walford, Dimapur, celebrated Teacher’s Day at the School Campus with Rev. Moses Murry, Chairman, Bethesda Ministries, as the Chief Guest.
In his address, Rev. Moses Murry quoted from the word of God on relationship of Ejijah and Elisha to show the actual role of teachers and students and how miraculous performances are possible in real life. He pointed out to the teachers to uphold the ethics of their profession where sacrifice, patience, tolerance, love and genuine concern for the children to be the prerequisites. Exhorting the students, Rev. Moses Murry advised the students to maintain discipline in every walk of life and obey their teachers in order to realize their potential to the fullest. Concluding his address, he pronounced the prayer of blessing for the teachers.
Earlier the function was chaired by Rahane of Cl-12 and invocation was said by Alito of Cl-10. While Lungwangle of Cl-7 said the welcome address and Rahane spoke on the significance of Teacher’s Day. Presentations to teachers, entertainments like special numbers, dances, choreography and a variety of items marked the celebrations. M.K. Money, Principal in a press release added that vote of thanks was extended by the Principal, BHSS and benediction was done by Samuel Murry of Cl-11.
