MP S. Phangnon Konyak appointed to NEHU Court

NEW DELHI, APRIL 19 (MExN): S. Phangnon Konyak, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from Nagaland, has been nominated as a member of the Court of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), according to a notification from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat. The nomination, made by the Vice President of India and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, takes effect from April 15, 2025.

NEHU, established in 1973 through an Act of Parliament, is a central university based in Shillong, Meghalaya. Initially serving the northeastern states of Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram, the university has played a key role in promoting higher education and research in the region.

Konyak’s appointment adds to the representation of the North East in national educational institutions. As a member of NEHU’s Court—the university’s highest governing body—she will contribute to decisions related to the university's overall policy and direction, a press release issued by the Press Secretary to the MP stated.

This appointment is expected to further enhance the institution’s linkages with the people of the region and support its ongoing pursuit of academic excellence and inclusive progress, it added.
