MP Supongmeren during his inspection of the sites.

DIMAPUR, JUNE 7 (MExN): Member of Parliament and Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President S. Supongmeren Jamir on June 7 inspected two critical infrastructure sites in Kohima district — the stalled Kohima Bypass Project (PKG-1) and the collapsed section of National Highway-2 near the Kisama exit gate.
During his visit to the bypass site, Jamir stressed the importance of coordination among landowners, government officials, and executing agencies to ensure smooth progress. “While judicial processes will take their own course, project work must not come to a halt,” he said, calling for the need for mutual understanding among stakeholders.
Officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), including the Executive Director (Projects), briefed the MP about the prolonged halt in tunnel construction. They informed him that landowner objections had stalled the tunnel work for over 14 months, causing structural deformation and partial collapse. The agency now estimates that another 1.5 years will be needed to restore the site completely.
Later in the day, Jamir visited the collapsed portion of NH-2 near the Kisama exit gate and expressed concern over the road disruption. NHIDCL officials told him that proposals for restoration have been submitted and repair work is expected to be completed within 10 days. They added that the Government of Manipur was also pressuring for early completion due to the route’s strategic significance.
Jamir assured that he would meet with the Kohima Deputy Commissioner at the earliest to help expedite the process. He also suggested involving village authorities in identifying landowners to prevent further delays.
The inspection was part of the Congress MP’s ongoing oversight of key infrastructure projects in the state.
