Wokha, November 11 (MExN): On the occasion of National Legal Service Day, Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) inaugurated Legal Aid Clinic and conducted debate competition on ‘Reservation of women is a positive step for the development of our society’ at Mt. Tiyi College, Wokha on November 9.
In her keynote address, WV Patton, Secretary WDLSA emphasized on the importance of having legal awareness in order to know one’s right and help sensitize others as concerned citizens of society. She asserted it is a prime responsibility of each individual student to acquire maximum knowledge as they would be leading the society tomorrow, stated a press release received here.
Short speeches were delivered by Principal, Mt. Tiyi College, Abeni and EAC, Aitepyong, Imliakum Sanglir. Both called upon the students to be equipped fully when opportunities are thrown at them and face the world with preparedness.
Imliakum Sanglir, who was the chief guest, also inaugurated the Legal Aid Clinic in the presence of school officials, Secretary WDLSA, Panel Lawyers, PLVs and the students. He urged all to utilize the clinic to the maximum and reach out to the unreached.
This was followed by the debate competition, where eight students participated - four for the motion and another four against it. Clear instructions and procedures were read out before the participants and the judges. Five minutes each were given to each participant as opening remark and they were judged based on their performance and quality of speech. Michael Ezung of Mt. Tiyi College, Mharonthung Patton of Mt. Tiyi College, Chonchithung Y. Emungrui of Bailey Baptist College won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. The winners were given certificates and cash prizes. Altogether, 150 students participated in the event.
