MTFA Trophy 2019: Alempang YA top Pool B table; Hills XI FC defeat Mongolian Brothers

Alempang YA and Hill FC registered victories in their respective games at the ongoing Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy here at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on October 17. 

However, Thursday’s matches were somewhat inconsequential and purely academic as the first match was between two teams already qualified for quarterfinals, while other encounter was between two, out of the tournament by now.  

The first match between Alempang YA and Kumlong SA was clash to decide the topper from Pool B and the former took home all three points from the match and topped the point table. 

Yashimeren of Alempang YA scored the solitary goal of the match in the 69th minute, taking his side to the quarterfinals of the MDFA for the first time ever. 

The team will face the runners up of Pool A, which is yet to be decided between Supervene Club and Marepkong YA.

 Alempang YA is the only team that has played exclusively their members alone without any “outside players” in their team ever since they first participated at the MDFA in 2016. 

They have showed marked improvement over the years and they are likely to make it to the semifinals this time.

Undefeated so far in the tournament, Kumlong SA will qualify for the quarter finals despite their loss today  and will face Pool A toppers and defending champions Intermingle Club.

In the other match today, Hills XI FC defeated Mongolian Brothers 4-1. It was an inconsequential Pool B match as both teams were already out of the tournament.
