Mokokchung, July 28 (MExN): The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) has issued a condemnation of a recent incident involving two police officers accused of harassing a minor girl and threatening her family.
The incidents occurred on the evenings of July 25 and 26 in the heart of Mokokchung town.
According to the MTLT, the two officers, allegedly in an inebriated state, harassed a six-year-old girl as she was returning home from tuition classes with her elder sister on July 25.
The organization expressed concern over the involvement of law enforcement personnel in such misconduct.
In a press release, the MTLT stated, "What is more disturbing is the fact that the two erring personnel came back to the innocent child’s home and threatened the parents using physical force. Whatever their intention or reason might be, their action is unjustified, condemnable, and totally unacceptable."
During a visit to the aggrieved family, MTLT members observed that the young child had developed a fear psychosis as a result of the incident.
The organization expressed its support for the child and her family, emphasizing its commitment to pursuing justice.
"The MTLT wishes her a speedy recovery and assures that the youth of Mokokchung Town will stand by her in the pursuit of justice," the statement read.
The MTLT has vowed to closely monitor the case and ensure that Mokokchung remains a peaceful society, free from any anti-social activities perpetrated by both state and non-state actors.
The organization has called on the relevant authorities to dispense justice promptly.
