Multiple transmission failures trigger power outage in Kohima

Kohima, March 28 (MExN): A power outage gripped Kohima from 7:42 am on Saturday following damage to the vital 132 kV Dimapur-Kohima transmission line, which snapped at Kuda Village due to inclement weather.

The disruption has been compounded by multiple failures in the region’s power supply chain. ohima district is normally fed from three sources, Dimapur, Doyang and Karong (Manipur).

According to Er Namheu Khate Zeliang, Executive Engineer of the Transmission Division Kohima, the supply from the Doyang Generation Station remains completely disrupted due to the collapse of a transmission tower at Longsa Village in Wokha district. Restoration work at the site is currently underway.

Additionally, due to the failure of station equipment at the 132/33 kV Yurembam Sub-Station in Manipur, the power supply from the Manipur side is not available at the moment.

However, with two sources non-operational, the district’s power supply is currently dependent solely on the 220/132 kV Power Grid sub-station at Nargajan in Dimapur, which itself has been affected by the snapped transmission line.

The department has assured that all-out efforts are being made to restore the affected line at the earliest possible time. “The department regrets the inconvenience caused to consumers and assures that all necessary measures are being taken to restore power supply,” Zeliang said in a statement.
