KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 9 (MExN): A three-day training programme for teachers on music education, organised under Samagra Shiksha in collaboration with Yamaha Music India, commenced on February 9 at Morung Hall, Directorate of School Education, Kohima.
Director of School Education Razouseyi Vese, in his address, said the programme marked the first partnership with Japan. He recalled the historical bond between the two sides since World War II, noting that villagers had warmly welcomed Japanese troops as friends, and said the friendship was now being strengthened through music education.
Vese urged teachers to make the most of the opportunity and guide children beyond dependence on government jobs. He said music could open up better opportunities and help create brighter futures for students. The department also assured full support in working together for the development of music education for children.
Speaking on behalf of Yamaha Music India, Ryoji Maruyama, Sales Unit Head of Yamaha Music India, said the company was established in 2008 with the vision of contributing to people’s well-being through music and providing quality music education across India. He said music has the power to inspire, connect and shape lives.
Maruyama expressed happiness at seeing children in Kohima enjoy music and said the project would help shape their future. He stressed that teachers play the most important role and encouraged them to fully engage with the system and enjoy the learning process so they could better guide their students.
Risaka Tokoro from Yamaha Corporation’s Music Popularisation Group presented an overview of the music education programme. She said the initiative was launched in 2015 to introduce music education in public schools, particularly at the elementary level, and is active in several countries including Egypt, Colombia and Vietnam. She expressed hope that the programme would help strengthen music education in Nagaland and enrich students’ lives through music.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Joint Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, Dr. Kevizakie Rio.
