‘Must do everything to support health workers’: NBCC

Kohima, August 8 (MExN): The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) on Saturday came out in support of the health workers in the state, saying that we must do everything to support them.

A press release from Rev Dr Zelhou Keyho, General Secretary NBCC, expressed belief that the church’s collaboration with the government and all other stakeholders in the state has been pivotal in sustaining the fight against COVID-19 pandemic so far.

“And in as much as we pray for ourselves, we also pray for the frontline workers for God’s protection. Among them we pray for the medical fraternity who are out there 24x7 taking care of the patients,” Rev Keyho stated.

The NBCC acknowledged the ‘ stressful and  frightening work environments’ being faced by the doctors, nurses and all health workers,  where they are often under-protected, overworked and vulnerable to infection.

“However, it is painful to hear of reports that some members of the medical fraternity have been harassed and even evicted from their colonies and homes or restriction placed on their mobility etc.,” the NBCC said.

Adding that some medical personnel have reportedly resorted to extreme steps by resigning from duty, the NBCC said that, a “whole-of-society resolve” was needed at this crucial juncture.

“We must do everything to support health workers who, despite their own well-founded fears, are stepping directly into COVID-19’s path to take care of the patients and help stop the virus’ spread.” NBCC appealed.

In this regard, the NBCC requested the church and the colony leaders to educate their members and be helpful to the frontline workers.

The churches’ response in acts of compassion and understanding during these trying times is important, it added, and called for support towards COVID-19 positive people and their families.

Special Family Prayer Time
Further, the NBCC called on all the Baptist Churches to join in a special Family Prayer Time from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm from August 9 to 16.

Some prayer concerns to be included:
•    Pray for strength and well-being of the COVID-19 frontline workers of Nagaland.
•    Pray for the containment of COVID-19 disease in Nagaland and the world.
•    Pray for the healing of COVID-19 positive people.
•    Pray for God’s wisdom upon our political leaders and the future of our people.
