Dimapur, February 21 (MExN): C-Edge College observed the International Mother Language Day on the theme “My mother tongue, my identity” with active participation by students and the faculty members on February 21. The day is observed worldwide to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism.
On the occasion, various items such as hymnal song, poetry slam and enactment in various Naga tribal dialects was presented by the BA II, IV and VI Semester English Honours students respectively.
Speaking on the significant of the day, Somirin, Chaplain C-Edge College stress on the significant and importance of mother tongue which shows the uniqueness and beautiful holding to our roots. She also encourage that we should embrace and preserve our mother tongue for it is our identity to which we are define and known for. The event also featured special presentation based on the theme mother tongue and its identity by the management and arts students.
The invocation was said by the College EU President James Ayemi. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Abigail BA VI Semester.
On the same day, after the IMLD event, the 7th Fine Arts &Literary Day which was for two days concluded. The students participated in various activities such as painting, poetry writing, poetry slam, short story writing, quiz competition, extempore speech and photography.
In the live event, through extempore speech, the students were able to showcase their public speaking skills. Poetry slam also brought out the poetic sides of the students where one expressed hope in the midst of darkness, another expressed love and lament over a lost parent. Another expressed frustrations over being unheard. In the quiz competition, the students were quizzed on the Constitution of India and current affairs.
The event ended with the declaration of the winners of the various competitions.
