Naga Club accepts resolutions on building issue

Kohima, August 1 (MExN): The Naga Club (NC) today said that it had agreed to accept the resolution passed by the APO and KVC recommending certain measures to resolve on the contentious NC building issue in Kohima.

The NC shall firmly stand by the resolution in good faith and goodwill to bring closure to the matter as is also earnestly desired by the Angami Public Organisation (APO) and the Kohima Village Council (KVC), stated a press release from the NC President, Kuolachalie Seyie and General Secretary, KN Mhonthung Lotha.

The APO and KVC with a “great moral responsibility had stepped in to mediate the matter for the Naga Club (NC) and the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF),” the NC stated. After a thorough and meticulous study of the facts of history, historical propriety its rightful place, and rational application of mind, the APO and KVC had passed resolution and recommended the same for adoption by both the NC and the NSF, it maintained.

As per the NC, the APO and KVC’s resolution had four core components, one of which stated that “the matter of ownership and construction must be left to the Naga Club”

Further, it recommended that on completion of a multi-storied building, some rooms will be given to NSF for their office. It further stipulated that the Naga Club building be used by all Nagas of the entire Naga homeland with proper understanding. The resolution also stated that that the “NSF may be allowed to use the building for the office till August last 2023 (w.e.f. 1st July 2023).”

Meanwhile, conveying its acceptance to the resolution, the NC further appreciated and acknowledged the “careful and thoughtful initiatives, goodwill efforts as well as wisdom of the APO and the KVC the matter.

“The NC supports the principle of ownership as determined by the APO and KVC based on the Naga history,” it added.
It must be noted here that the NSF office located in the Naga Club building Kohima was demolished in the wee hours of May 27 and the federation had filed a FIR compliant at North Police Station Kohima alleging demolition of its office by ‘unknown miscreants.’

During the intervening period, interspersed with granting of pre-arrest bails to some functionaries of the NC as well as Court hearings, the NSF have withdrawn the FIR.
