Dimapur, May 5 (MExN): The Naga Council views with seriousness the press note from Naga Women Hoho Dimapur asserting severance of all support to the council. The council, in a rejoinder from its executives, plainly denied the charge of adopting a ‘double-standard’ policy. It also took note that the signatories of the NWHD’s earlier press statement are forged since it has been confirmed that the signatories when, contacted denied any knowledge of the issuance.
The council, following a deliberation on May 7, clarified that Tiala Sapuh and Hukali Akato, among the “best known faces,” of social activists in Dimapur are mandated representatives of NWHD by virtue of provisions enshrined in the Naga Council’s constitution Article 9 (3) (C ). This was reaffirmed and duly approved by the council’s resolution No. 3 dated June 15, 2006 which empowered all sitting representatives to complete the full term in keeping with the EC’s recommendation dated January 23, 2005 submitted during the preceding tenure, the council explained.
It further made clear that the council has neither violated its resolution nor applied ‘double-standard’ policy as alleged since resolutions were duly voted and approved in the annual council meeting on may 15, 2006. Rather due to strict adherence to the resolutions and constitution, replacement/reshuffling of representatives were not possible. This was not only applied in the case of the NWHD but as well as to other affiliated units, it stated adding that the Hoho was however, informed on April 24 that the matter of representation will be discussed in the council meeting in May ‘07 to which they agreed.
Further, it stated that while respecting the constitutions of the affiliated units, decisions of the Naga council are based on its constitution which was approved and adopted by all tribal unions/units. The fact that the new representatives of NWHD were not inducted was due to the reason that their decisions/letters were communicated to the council after the resolution dated May 15, 2006 was passed and approved (NWHD letters dated June 2, 2006 and NWHD resolution August 26, 2006).
While reiterating support and cooperation with all womenfolk of NWHD and appreciating their sacrifices rendered to Dimapur, the Naga Council appealed to the women populace not to be misled or confused by NWHD’s press statement “aimed at vitiating the spirit of trust, cooperation” among members.
Tenyimi Women Union, Dimapur
The Tenyimi Women Union Dimapur has expressed concern at the latest development between the NWHD and the Naga Council where the former expressed severance of support and cooperation to the latter. A note from the president of the union, Khremou, clarified and declared that the decision taken by the NWHD is outside the information, knowledge and approval of the union. “In our considered opinion, such a decision is uncalled for and is deemed to be destructive and divisive in nature and, thus, we are constrained to condemn the same” it added.
