Dimapur, May 10 (MExN): Naga Council has extended its total support to the demand of Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD) regarding the construction of ‘foothill road’ traversing from Dimapur to Mon district by Nagaland government at the earliest.
Naga Council, President, T. Bangerloba stated in a press release that as per the worthy demand of ASTD, such a road totally inside the state’s boundary would go a long way in mitigating the hardships of our people. It expressed optimism that the hundreds of kms of new road cutting across rural domains would usher in prosperity in the form of hotels and roadside businesses at a time when the job scenario under Nagaland government looks bleak.
Naga Council felt that apart from economic prosperity, such a venture, in the long-run would also prevent rural to urban migration which apart from straining urban amenities leads to neglect in development of rural areas too. It stated that an immediate relief would be harassment-free ride for Nagaland passengers from Assam police who according to one popular magazine a few years back were rated as the second most corrupt police force in India.
Therefore, the Naga Council affirmed that the demand of ASTD is timely and requested, “DAN government to take up this project lying in backburner since 1974 and a project as this would certainly qualify as the defining moment of any governance.”
