Guwahati, February 5 (MExN): 20 local entrepreneurs/exporters from Nagaland underwent a 3-day training on food processing from January 28 to 30 at the Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT), LO, Guwahati.

The training on value addition of fruits, vegetables and under-utilized fruits of the North Eastern Region (NER) was organized by the Department of Industries and Commerce, government of Nagaland under the financial assistance and support from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).

The three-day training covered theory and practical demonstration on the value addition of fruits and vegetables, spices and bakery products. Resource persons from IIFPT spoke on the scope and importance of food processing focusing in the NER, technical and demonstration session on value addition of fruits, vegetables and spices, bakery products was conducted during the training.

The Department organized the training for capacity building and skill development among the trainees in food processing and to provide exposure to various equipment used in food processing. It also aims to encourage prospective entrepreneurs to take up more food processing activities in the State, a press release from the IIFPT informed.

APEDA is undertaking many promotional activities in the NER to link exporters to the international market, with focus on skill development. Similar skill development programmes are being planned this year, as part of the initiative of APEDA to bring the North-Eastern states of India on the export map of India, the release added.
