DIMAPUR, JANUARY 18 (MExN): A joint meeting of the Naga civil society (Naga Students’ Federation, Naga Peoples’ Movement for Human Rights and Naga Council Dimapur) under the aegis of the Naga Hoho and the Ahom Royal Society was held today at the Bookmarc Conference Hall here. Following a “threadbare discussion” over the prevailing situation in Karbi Anglong, the house viewed that “normalcy and peace must be restored in the region at the earliest since both communities have co-existed in the past as indigenous people,” stated a joint appeal signed by president of the Naga Hoho, P. Chuba Ozukum and working president of the Ahom Royal Society, Kamala Rajkonwar. The house also appealed to both the communities to “shun all sorts of violence and bloodshed between brothers once and for all and built confidence among the people.” It “strongly” felt that both the Assam state Government and the Central Government should “initiate towards removing ethnic clashes and bring permanent solution at the earliest.”
