Naga Hoho demands action against vandals

Dimapur, September 5 (MExN): The Naga Hoho has urged the Government of Nagaland to expedite the inquiry into the violence and vandalism that led to the destruction of infrastructure and properties of two hospitality institutions in Dimapur on September 1. The organization has demanded befitting action against those who indulged in vandalism and violence that day.   “We as responsible citizens condemn the act of vandalism and violence on 1st September at Dimapur in various places particularly the Niathu Resort which was damaged beyond imagination and therefore the Naga Hoho sincerely appeals to the State government to expedite the enquiry and take befitting action against those at fault,” the Naga Hoho said in a message received here today.

Insecurity and apprehension have been looming in the minds of the people during the last few days over the death of a youth in Kohima, the Naga Hoho said. “As the apex body of various Naga tribe hohos, the Naga Hoho was indeed under pressure as to what should be done to defuse the apparent communal tension. Under these circumstances, the Naga Hoho decided to convene an emergency consultative meeting comprising of Angami Public Organization and Sumi Hoho on 1st and 2nd September at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, with a view to remove the apparent communal tension and to instill a sense of brotherhood towards ushering peaceful feelings and atmosphere,” the Naga Hoho stated.

The Naga Hoho expresses deep appreciation to the APO and Sumi Hoho for their “big heartedness for understanding the gravity of the situation by rising above all isms and restoring normalcy particularly between the two communities.”
