Naga Hoho wants bar on shops’ random price hikes

Dimapur, March 26 (MExN): The Naga Hoho today said business establishments should be reined in from hiking prices of goods under whatever pretext be it extortion, “corruption” or donations. Reminding that the common citizens are suffering at the hands of the business and “shops,” the Naga Hoho has demanded greater vigil from the authorities and citizens.

“The random escalation of prices in Nagaland particularly on essential commodities and raw materials for construction of buildings which are many a times dubious in nature. It has been observing that Dimapur, the only commercial hub in Nagaland has been driving towards determining the prices in Nagaland for which the reasons best known to the concern authorities like Administration and Department of Taxes,” stated the Naga Hoho press release released received here.

The note was appended by Nikhrolo Khalo, assistant general secretary.

“This has become a matter of great concern for the general public who are always the victims of corruption in high places, extortion and so on,” the organization said.

The organization reminded that ‘inflation on cement’ at a very exorbitant rate of Rs.15 per bag as stated by Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, “had created confusion in the minds of the innocent public” that whether a Deputy Commissioner has the prerogative to fix the rate for cement.

“Whatever the reason may be the shop keepers should not be allowed to fix unreasonable prices under the pretext of extortions, corruptions, donations, etc. In this regard, the Naga Hoho appeal to all the general public to keep vigil against all forms of ulterior designs and report the matter to the concern authority so as to save the people from the hands of manipulators in our own land.”
