Don’t undermine the Naga public, Konyak Church reminds
Dimapur, June 24 (MExN): In a marked indication of mounting concern over factional feuds between the various Naga underground organizations, and even apolitical entities being compelled to raise a voice against that effect, the Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum (Konyak Baptist Churches Association) has strongly asked the groups not to undermine the Naga public, reminding that every Naga had contributed to the movement.
The Konyak Church, deciding to raise a voice on it and discussed to that effect in its recent June Council, strongly maintained that it is time the Naga political organizations rise above sectarian agendas and heed the pleas of the blood-ravaged Nagas for peace and unity.
The KBBB reminded that the long history of the Naga movement has witnessed every Naga citizen contributing to the struggle. “The Naga publics are no fools; they need not be taken for a ride. The national workers need to display their political matured-ness through rationality rather than emotionality” Rev. M Tonlong, Executive Secretary of the Konyak Baptist Church Association, emphasized.
Pertinent to its call for cessation of bloodshed among the Naga underground groups, the Konyak Church strongly put across the reminder to the factions that the Naga people has equally borne suffering in the movement. “If we claim ourselves to be beneath the cross of Christ, we need to forgive each other. The general Naga public has equally borne the burden and suffered in the struggle for our freedom” it stated.
Further, the association strongly urged the Naga national workers to rise above sectarianism in all forms. “The political agenda of the national workers need to rise above factionalism, regionalism, tribalism or any ‘ism’. To be reconciled and to forgive one’s opponent might be hard humanly, but the greatest victory in history is the cross where one’s enemy is forgiven” the KBBB reminded.
“Every Naga has contributed to the movement at different levels. The loss of many leaders in the hands of our own brothers and condemning each other, which are the result of this emotionalism, should be stopped” it urged. The church also, acknowledged the genuineness of the Naga political movement, but lamented that the present political scenario of the movement now depicts an “ugly picture” which, according to the KBBB, “makes one think that the genuineness of the cause seems to be fading away”.
Taking into account the pleas of the Naga people, the Church strongly reaffirmed its opinion that the Naga political organizations need to incline towards people’s pledge for unity and reconciliation.
“It is a must and the only option to come to our national common goal” it stressed while calling for forgiveness and unity.
