Naga peace crusaders cry out for unity

Dimapur, March 11 (MExN): The Pukerila and Tangkhul Peace Crusaders today made a fervent appeal to the leadership of the three Naga underground factions to forgive and reconcile among themselves asserting that it was a revelation from God in their prayers and further gave an elaborate prediction of their revelation from God.

A press statement received here from Sereno Chophi, Pukrelia and N Pheirim, Convenor of the Tangkhul Peace Crusader, Kohima stated that peace, unity and reconciliation among all the Nagas is a pre-requisite need for the Naga political solution and final settlement.

“If solution comes today without unity and reconciliation among all Nagas, it shall begin a new chapter of Naga history where a new chapter of bloodshed shall begin in Nagaland. The trio organisation (NSCN (IM), NSCN (K) and NNC leaders must learn from the past and therefore seek God’s forgiveness” stated the release.

The release titled ‘A cry for unity and reconciliation for Naga political solution’ stated that the Pukreilas and the Tangkhul Peace Crusaders support the present peace talks between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India whole heartedly pointing out that it is for the whole Nagas, however, the release advised the NSCN (IM) leadership to seek the support of the NNC and the NSCN (K) factions and the entire Naga general public, stating that unless the NSCN (IM) seek the support of other Naga underground organisations and the public, the present opportunity for realizing the dream of ‘God’s promise of Naga Nationhood’ might slip off.

The release with regards to this matter, appealed to the three Naga underground factions leaders to shed their pride and humble themselves before God for the sake of the younger generation.

Choose neutral party for peace initiative:
The release, while appreciating that the formation of Peace and Reconciliation Committee by the NSCN (IM) within their fold, suggested that third party members should be inducted to carry on the work.

The release pointed out that the initiatives of the committee to send out feelers to various organisations or tribes is not practicable as the committee members are just the members of the NSCN (IM) faction.

“The peace and reconciliation initiative should come from Naga civil organisations, religious institutions or any individual citizens who have great concern for the Nagas and who enjoy the Naga public confidence” the release suggested and added that the three Naga underground factions must accept and respond to any neutral party’s initiative for peace and reconciliation.

The release, while appreciating the NSCN (IM) peace proclamation, wondered and question why the other organisations have not sought forgiveness from the NSCN (IM) ‘if they have done wrong to others’.

“This requires explanation or in one word they must repent” the release stated.

Forgiveness, the only way:
The release sated that forgiveness is the only way and to unite and march forward with renewed vigor for the common goal of the Nagas.

The release sought forgiveness from the eastern Nagas, by the NSCN (IM) especially under the leadership of the Tangkhuls, just as the ‘wrongs committed to the Tangkhuls by the eastern Nagas be forgiven as brothers of one family in the name of Jesus Christ’.

Angamis must lead the peace process:
The release stated that the Angami country and its people enjoy the great confidence of many tribes, and so the release suggested the Angamis to have ‘big heart and forget about the past and take a lead tin the present peace dialogue between the NSCN (IM) and the GOI.’

The release also sated that the contribution made by the Angamis under the leadership of AZ Phizo is a matter of Naga history. However, it stated that the Angamis are ‘traumatized and shocked’ after the Shillong accord which Phizo failed to denounce or condemn. It opined  that Angamis are still supporting the peace process, though they have the opinion that ‘unless all factions unite and reconcile, solution may not be found’.

A warning
The release gave a warning to the Naga factions that God cannot send angels from heaven to solve the Naga problem. “Forgive one another in Christ name than my promise of Naga nation hood will be attained” it stated and reminded that this is the best opportune time to forgive and reconcile.
