Naga Peace Talks: LPO on appointment of AK Mishra

Wokha, October 6 (MExN): The Lotha Public Organisation (LPO) has expressed confidence that negotiations in the vexed Indo-Naga political issue would now be ‘smooth-sailing’ with the appointment of AK Mishra as the representative of the Government of India for the Naga Peace Talks.

The much desired results and the Naga people’s yearning will be subsequently fulfilled, LPO President Sulanthung Humtsoe and Vice President Phyobemo Odyuo stated in a press release on Wednesday.

Commending the Government of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for assigning former Intelligence Bureau Special Director AK Mishra as the GoI’s representative for the talks, the LPO stated that Mishra would promote “forging out the difference of the negotiating parties with his approach to the Indo-Naga political talk.” Maintaining Prime Minister and Home Minister are committed to bringing a solution “so that the peace and development can be precipitate in Naga homeland,” The LPO also said it was elated that the GOI and the NSCN have resumed talks to find a solution to the protracted political problem.

The LPO meanwhile, acknowledged that Mishra has been given a “monumental task to pick up the loose ends of the Indo-Naga political talks.” However, it opined that Mishra’s appointment was a “good sign towards resolving the Naga political issue as he is very well versed of the contention of the Naga history.”

“Furthermore it is tangible that the standstill between the negotiating parties has thawed and talks would be carried forward in the right direction,” and a ‘harmonious agreement’ would set in at the earliest for permanent peace in the land, the LPO stated.
