‘Naga Unity a matter of utmost importance’

KU, Konyak elders, NPG leaders affirm  2007 Tuensang Resolution

Mon, November 23 (MExN): Issues related to the Naga political settlement and the Frontier Nagaland state demand were discussed during a meeting between the Konyak Union, Konyak elders and leaders from various Naga Political Groups along with regional authorities at Mon Headquarters on November 17 and 18.

According to a press release on Wednesday, the house seriously deliberated and understood that Frontier Nagaland state demand is an aspiration of the ENPO area for a separate statehood to fulfill economic and administrative demands of its region and should not be misconstrued or misinterpreted. “Also, the Naga Political Groups should consider ENPO sentiment for a Frontier Nagaland state in the event of early Naga political settlement. The house understood that both the issues at hand are for a just cause,” stated the release which was issued by the Konyak Union President Tingthok Konyak and Manpangk Wangyen General Secretary.

Notably, the meeting reaffirmed Naga Unity as a matter of utmost importance for all Nagas sans existing geo-political demarcations and to support whole heartedly, an early Naga Political Solution. The meeting also reaffirmed the Tuensang Resolutions of December 18, 2007 to maintain peace and unity in the ENPO area in particular and in all the Naga inhabited areas in general, the release stated.

As per the release, Konyak leaders from the negotiating parties of NSCN (IM) and Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) apprised the house on the current status of Indo-Naga Political Talks vis-à-vis Naga solution. The house is said to have deliberated, at length, the issue of Naga Solution and the possible implications it may have on the Konyak Nagas and the Nagas at large.

Meanwhile, the release stated that the house welcomed the sense of unity and understanding among the Konyak leaders from various Naga political groups who came together on the invitation of the Konyak Union. It also appreciated the recent Kolkata Conclave under the initiative of Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) between the two negotiating parties of NSCN (IM) and 7 NNPGs earlier in October to sort out differences and to bring about understanding for an inclusive, acceptable and honourable Naga political Solution to the protracted Naga issues, which the Nagas have been yearning for decades.
